CHENG ZHONGQI
Cheng was born in Hubei, China (1976) where she studied the fine arts and developed into an accomplished mural painter while studying at the Central Academy of Arts in Beijing (2004). Her impressive showings in China throughout the last decade--including group and personal exhibitions--reveal her extensive training and vision as contemporary painter. Her debut in the United States at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) won her the "Libiwen medal", the Grand Prize for the Young Chinese Contemporary Art Competition in 2004, leading to her work entering the museum’s collection. Recently, Cheng has shown her impressive sense of style and detail with the monumental mural work at the Church of Our Saviour in New York where she collaborated with Ken Jan Woo. Cheng Zhongqi's contemporary paintings -- hint at subtle human forms with a reserved yet powerful movement. The
smooth contours she creates in her
paintings impart not only masterful composition but a glimpse into this
versatile painter's vision.
